Yamashita Park

Yamashita Park is a historic park located in Yamashitacho, Naka Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was created on reclaimed land using debris from the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and officially opened as a seaside park in 1930. Since then, it has undergone many historical changes, including serving as a venue for a recovery exposition and being taken over by the U.S. military after World War II, among others, bearing witness to the modern development history of Yokohama.

Yamashita Park is a representative park of Yokohama, stretching approximately 1 kilometer along Yokohama Port from the east side of Osanbashi Pier to Yamashita Wharf. Nestled by the harbor and sea, it boasts beautiful scenery and is an ideal leisure spot for the people of Yamashitacho. Behind the park stands the Yokohama Port Tower. The park features cultural landmarks such as the statue of a girl wearing red boots, the Water God guardian statue, and memorial monuments, all vividly crafted and exquisitely designed. In addition, beneath the pier on the Yamashita Wharf side of the park lies the remains of a luxury passenger ship. Said to have been built in the 1930s, every detail of its interior decoration, furnishings, and lighting is uniquely designed, making it the iconic symbol of Yamashita Park.
