Yokohama Hakkeijima's Northern Taiwan's Largest Aquarium to Become a New Tourism Landmark

Japan’s largest aquarium, “Yokohama Hakkeijima,” is set to establish itself in Taiwan, with the location chosen at the third phase of the Hua Tai Designer Outlet in Taoyuan. The plan is largely finalized, and the third phase of the mall is expected to be completed in May 2019. The Hakkeijima Aquarium, along with a tourist hotel, cinema, and other entertainment facilities, will open before the 2020 Lunar New Year. The 4,500-ping aquarium will also become the largest in northern Taiwan.

Taiwan’s first American-style outlet, Hua Tai Designer Outlet, is located at the Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station. With the opening of the Taoyuan MRT, it has attracted a large number of visitors. The third phase of the mall will add about 108 new brands, enhancing brand diversity, focusing on daily necessities, furniture, luxury goods, and home decor, while also introducing more restaurants and a larger food court.

The Hakkeijima Aquarium at Hua Tai Mall will span 4,500 ping, with three above-ground floors and two underground levels. It will not only incorporate the world’s most advanced imaging technology and interactive installations but also combine diverse biological ecosystems from Taiwan and around the world to create a large urban aquarium.
