Since its completion in 1961 (Showa 36), Yokohama Marine Tower has been a symbol of Yokohama. It was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the port's opening, stands 106 meters tall, and is the tallest land-based lighthouse in the world. Essentially a lighthouse and an observation deck, the tower offers an unobstructed panoramic view of the entire harbor from its observation floor. At 100 meters above ground, there is a 3,000-person capacity revolving observation hall, from which you can see the Boso Peninsula on the eastern shore of Tokyo Bay, Oshima Island beyond the bay, and even Mount Fuji.

At night, Yokohama Marine Tower emits red and green lights equivalent to 600,000 standard candles into the night sky. From the tower, you can enjoy a breathtaking night view of the lights of ships of all sizes nearby and far away, as well as the illuminated cityscape of the entire port area. Ships entering or leaving Tokyo Bay for the Pacific Ocean can spot the tower’s bright beam from as far as 30 kilometers away. Following a brand-new concept focused on offering new types of enjoyment and comfort, Yokohama Marine Tower reopened with great fanfare on May 23, 2009. In addition to its spectacular views, it features lush gardens, open-air cafes, and restaurants, making it an ideal venue for various events, including weddings.
