Cetian Reservoir

Located in Xicaitian Township, Datong County, it is one of the largest reservoirs in Shanxi Province. It spans the Sanggan River, stretching ten kilometers from east to west, covering an area of 15,000 mu, with a water storage capacity of 86 million cubic meters. It can irrigate over 400,000 mu of farmland and yields more than 50,000 kilograms of fish annually.

　Cetian Reservoir is located about 20 kilometers east of the county town and has a water storage capacity of 57 million cubic meters, making it the largest reservoir in Shanxi Province. The widest part of the reservoir surface reaches several kilometers, and it stretches 16.5 kilometers in length. Below the reservoir area lies Wulongtan (Black Dragon Shoal), where black basalt stones are neatly arranged as if by design. These stones, eroded over the years by flowing water, have lost their edges and corners, becoming smooth and bare, exuding a certain mystique. The trees on both banks are lush and verdant. The northern bank features steep cliffs and rugged rocks. On the cliff there is a cave, said to be called Wulong Cave. Due to the dangerous climb, no one has ever explored it, leaving it shrouded in mystery to this day. Below the cave flows a spring, which runs day and night at a rate of 0.27 m³ per second, believed to be Wulong Spring. The spring water is crystal clear, with fish playfully swimming, seemingly interacting joyfully with visitors. Currently, the reservoir area is one of the rare natural parks in Shanxi Province and also a great destination for summer retreats, sightseeing, and tourism in the Datong region, attracting up to 40,000 visitors each year.
