Bao Tian Tea
Bao Tian Tea is a specialty of Bao Tian Township, Huitong County, Huaihua City, Hunan Province. It is known for its “rich aroma and sweet aftertaste,” making it very popular among consumers. The “Huitong Chunhao” tea produced here won a gold award at the provincial tea expo.
Tea cultivation is one of the key projects supported by the comprehensive agricultural development program in Huitong County. The county now has over 6,000 acres of organic tea plantations, with an annual increase of 3,000 acres.
In 1972, the first large-scale tea plantation in Huitong County was established in Bao Tian. By 1974, the plantation had expanded to cover 58 hillsides, reaching 2,000 acres, with its core located on Yan Ying Po — a hill celebrated in generations of folk songs. Situated at an altitude of over 840 meters, the area enjoys a cool and pleasant climate, abundant rainfall, deep soil layers with slightly acidic pH, and over 100 foggy days per year. There is no atmospheric or geological pollution within a radius of nearly 100 kilometers.
To meet market demand, the government guided farmers to adopt a “company + base + farmer” model, moving tea production from the mountains to the foothills — a move that proved successful. In 2005, Bao Tian Tea Farm was recognized as a municipal-level agricultural industrialization leading enterprise by the city’s agricultural industrialization office, and in 2007, it was again honored by the municipal government. In August 2006, the farm took another major step by successfully forming a partnership with a Hunan tea factory to establish Bao Tian Tea Co., Ltd. In 2008, the farm fully promoted the planting of organic tea and actively developed tea processing to extend the industrial chain. It also applied for organic tea processing licenses and permitted labeling. In 2008, the Huitong County People's Government listed Bao Tian Tea as one of the top ten agricultural industrialization development industries in the county.
Thanks to its “rich aroma and sweet aftertaste,” Bao Tian Tea is widely loved by consumers. The company’s “Huitong Chunhao” tea won a gold award at the provincial tea expo. Currently, tea sales are thriving, with products being exported to Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and even the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Base in Gansu, among other places.
