Southorn Stadium

The official name of Southorn Stadium is Southorn Playground, located on Lockhart Road in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. It is one of the open-air sports venues in Wan Chai. The facility includes one seven-a-side soccer pitch and four basketball courts, and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Southorn Stadium serves as a popular gathering and recreational spot for many people around the area. Many people refer to the area around Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai simply as "Southorn," and the Wan Chai District Council also has an electoral constituency known as B10 Southorn.

Southorn Stadium was once a major landmark in Wan Chai. In the past, the stadium served as a gathering place for job seekers in the mornings, where many unemployed individuals would wait for manual labor jobs. By evening, it transformed into a “night bazaar”-style “people’s nightclub,” offering food and various performances, becoming a key form of entertainment for local residents at the time.

Today, Southorn Stadium remains one of the main recreational venues in the Wan Chai district and is a rare large public space in this densely populated area. The stadium features covered stands and lighting facilities, making it suitable for soccer or basketball matches. Even now, the stadium stays lively—with elderly people playing chess or enjoying the shade, and teenagers playing soccer or basketball. Streetball competitions are also frequently held here, attracting many enthusiasts to either compete or watch.
