• Island Shangri-La’s Cake Shop has long been known as the “Island Tea Restaurant” and is said to be the very first cha chaan teng in Hong Kong, opening its doors as early as the 1940s. The restaurant is most famous for its flaky egg tarts, and the couplet on its door takes inspiration from its renowned coffee and egg tarts: “Sandalwood pales next to coffee’s scent, the island has become the land of egg tarts.” These egg tarts have 192 layers of crust—larger in portion and uniquely crispy in texture compared to regular ones.

• Cross Street is your typical traditional market where vehicles aren’t allowed, making it a safe and relaxing spot for shopping. The street stalls sell not only fresh produce such as fish, meat, vegetables, and fruit, but also many clothing shops, snack vendors, and toy stores—offering a glimpse into the daily life of Wan Chai locals, all at very affordable prices.

• Though not a major tourist attraction in Wan Chai, and rarely visited by general tourists, this small local market along Tai Yuen Street—stretching just over 100 meters—offers a wealth of inexpensive local clothing, cosmetics, and everyday goods. Most notably, it’s home to wholesale and retail toy shops offering a wide variety of novel and stylish items, from the latest cartoon characters, car models, and toy guns, to classic metal toys and nostalgic playthings that will delight those who grew up in the '50s and '60s. Best of all, the prices are very reasonable.

• Step into The Peninsula Hong Kong and you’ll immediately be awed by its luxurious grandeur—the ceilings stand 4.5 meters high, adorned with crystal chandeliers and supported by majestic marble pillars, truly fit for the term “opulent.” The excellence of The Peninsula Hong Kong can’t be fully described without mentioning Chef Cheung Kwan Yin, whose signature dish “Double Delights from the South Seas” won the Gold Award at the 1993 Hong Kong Food Festival and the Blue Ribbon Award from the French Gastronomic Society. In 2001, he was further honored with the French Gastronomic Society’s First Class Honor Award. Aside from his exceptional culinary skills, Chef Cheung is also highly praised for his healthy cooking style that avoids MSG.
