Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter

Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter is situated in Causeway Bay, Eastern District, Hong Kong, and is one of the major typhoon shelters in Victoria Harbour. It extends from Kellet Island in the west to the waters off Hing Fat Street in the east. Since Kellet Island houses the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, the shelter is mainly used for yacht berthing. The island is also where the Hong Kong Island entrance of the Cross-Harbour Tunnel is located. To the east, the shelter marks the starting point of the Island Eastern Corridor.

Within Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, there is a red triangular floating temple boat dedicated to Tin Hau, which is the only floating fishing temple in Hong Kong. A temple keeper often resides on the boat, and its worshippers are mainly local fishermen. Visitors can take sampans from the shelter’s pier to reach the boat, which is registered as “40426S.” In addition, the area around the shelter offers a variety of distinctive Typhoon Shelter cuisine, with dishes such as Typhoon Shelter Crab having become a local signature dish.

On clear summer days, the shoreline of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter offers an excellent vantage point for watching the sunset. The bright sun sets between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, eventually disappearing below the horizon in the New Territories. The pedestrian bridge connecting Victoria Garden and Causeway Bay Promenade, due to its elevated position, provides an ideal spot for capturing the sunset.
