Located on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, Ocean Park Hong Kong is considered one of the world’s most popular theme parks and one of the largest leisure and entertainment parks in Southeast Asia, covering an area of 170 acres. The park is spread across the slopes of Nam Long Shan and the valley of Wong Chuk Hang. It is divided into two main sections — the Summit and the Lowland. The Summit is the core of the park, featuring attractions such as the Ocean Theatre, the Shark Aquarium, the Atoll Reef, and the Birds Paradise. The Lowland houses the Waterfront, Asia’s first water amusement center, as well as the Garden Theatre, the Goldfish Theatre, and the Old Hong Kong Village — a recreation of historical landmarks. Attractions like the Shark Aquarium, the Pacific Pier, and the Atoll Reef reveal the mysteries of the ocean, while the Birds Paradise and the Butterfly House captivate visitors. Thrill-seekers can enjoy rides like the Hair Raiser and the Abyss Turbo Drop. There's also something for families at the Children's World, the Thrill Mountain, and the Giant Panda Habitat (home to the giant pandas An An and Jia Jia, gifted by the central government, who were first displayed to the public for free in 1999). Don’t miss the fun-filled dolphin and sea lion shows at the Ocean Theatre. You could easily spend a full day enjoying all that Ocean Park has to offer. Additionally, taking the cable car is a delightful experience — riding 205 meters above ground offers breathtaking views of the South China Sea, with its sparkling sands and shimmering waters, and white clouds drifting by. When leaving the park, you can also ride the world’s second-longest outdoor escalator.

Ocean Park Hong Kong Aquarium

One of the world’s largest aquariums. With a water body 22 meters wide, 38 meters long, and 7 meters deep, it is divided into four levels and can be viewed via a surrounding walkway. Designed to resemble a coral reef, it is split into a Deep Lake and a Lagoon: the Deep Lake is modeled after a barrier reef, and the Lagoon after a fringing reef, with water flowing between the two. The aquarium is home to over 5,000 fish from around 400 species inhabiting the Pacific Islands and the South China Sea, ranging from saltwater damselfish less than 2 cm in length to 3-meter-long leopard sharks, as well as moray eels, angelfish, and groupers among other coral reef species. The aquarium also features an exhibition titled “Coral and Coral Reefs,” which explains the formation of coral reefs.

Ocean Park Hong Kong Sea Water Theatre

A massive pool measuring 152 meters wide, 122 meters long, and 2.7 meters deep, featuring various artificial coastlines suitable for different marine animals. It mainly displays species such as California sea lions from the U.S., Cape fur seals from Africa, Steller sea lions, pelicans, Jackass penguins, and Humboldt penguins. Artificial waves are generated by electric wave machines, with wave heights reaching up to 1 meter. There are also exhibitions themed around coastal and marine animals, explaining types and formations of coasts, the relationship between tides/waves and shores, various coastal ecosystems, and marine mammals. Information is presented through a series of lightbox displays and electronic games. Visitors can also operate an underwater camera to observe the marine life below.

Transportation: 1. Take the MTR to Admiralty Station, exit at Exit B, then transfer to the Ocean Park shuttle bus route 629. One-way fare is HK$10.6. 2. On holidays, you can take Citybus routes 107, 170, or 171 and get off at the Ocean Park stop.
