Introduction

Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter is a fishing village that houses as many as several thousand fishing boats. Most of its residents are “boat people,” mainly of Hoklo descent. The shelter is home to the world-renowned “Jumbo Kingdom” (previously called the Jumbo Floating Restaurant), one of the largest floating restaurants in the world. Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter is the sheltered waters between Aberdeen and Ap Lei Chau. Aberdeen was originally a traditional fishing village with strong local character, and the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter has long served as a safe haven for local fishermen. It is home to the boat-dwelling community, where hundreds of residents still maintain the traditional lifestyle of living on fishing boats, predominantly of Hoklo origin. Adjacent to the shelter, filled with moored fishing boats, are rows of modern high-rise buildings, creating a striking contrast between the old and new neighborhoods. In the evening, the shimmering lights reflected on the water create a uniquely romantic scene. Visitors can take a sampan tour around the typhoon shelter to experience the life of the boat people.

At night, the Jumbo Floating Restaurant and Tai Pak Floating Restaurant light up with dazzling decorations, resembling a crown on the sea, both eye-catching and magnificent. Visitors can board the ships to enjoy distinctive cuisine while taking in the enchanting night views outside. This world-famous “Jumbo Kingdom” (formerly known as the Jumbo Floating Restaurant) is one of the largest floating restaurants in the world. The Jumbo Floating Restaurant stands three stories tall, adorned with luxurious décor—red and gold dragons coiled around the pillars complemented by other traditional ornaments, giving off an extraordinary grandeur.   Transportation
