Aberdeen Country Park

Introduction

Aberdeen Country Park is located on the southern slopes of Hong Kong Island, extending north to Wan Chai Gap and south to Aberdeen and Wong Chuk Hang. Covering an area of approximately 423 hectares, it is one of the earlier established country parks in Hong Kong.

The park is surrounded by the “Aberdeen Reservoir,” which is divided into the Aberdeen Upper Reservoir and the Aberdeen Lower Reservoir. The Aberdeen Upper Reservoir was the last reservoir to be built on Hong Kong Island, and the combined water storage capacity of the two reservoirs is 12.5 million cubic metres.

Aberdeen Country Park boasts a beautiful environment, making it ideal for both hiking and leisurely walks, especially during spring when the hillsides are covered in blooming flowers and shaded by lush greenery. Being in such surroundings can be truly refreshing. The shade that visitors enjoy today is the result of post-war afforestation and the regeneration of various broadleaf tree species, including common ones like red redbud, schima, camellia, schefflera, and mallotus. Common birds found in the forested areas of the park include crested goshawk, bamboo partridge, hwamei, magpie, myna, and kingfisher. 1. Take Bus 7 from Opposite Man Yiu Street at Exit A2 of Hong Kong Station and alight at Shek Pai Wan Bus Terminus.

2. Take Bus 76 outside Heng Lee Centre in Causeway Bay and alight at Shek Pai Wan Bus Terminus.
