Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum

The Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum is a museum operated by the Correctional Services Department of Hong Kong. It is located in Stanley, Southern District, Hong Kong Island, near the Correctional Services Department Staff Training Institute, and officially opened at the end of 2002. The Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum was closed for renovation from September 21, 2009, and reopened on January 29, 2010.

The two-storey Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum covers an area of approximately 480 square metres and features 10 exhibition rooms, 2 simulated prison cells, and a mock gallows. The museum houses over 600 exhibits, and its rooftop includes a replica prison watchtower. It documents the history and evolution of Hong Kong’s correctional system, types of punishment, as well as the uniforms and insignia of correctional officers. In addition, the museum displays materials related to the lives of Vietnamese boat people, homemade weapons, and other valuable artefacts. There is also a secondary exhibition area introducing rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, showcasing handicrafts made by inmates.

The Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum showcases the evolution of Hong Kong's correctional system over the past 160 years — from a focus on harsh punishment as a deterrent to today’s emphasis on helping offenders start anew.
