Shek O Beach, Hong Kong

Shek O, formerly known as Shek Ngau, is located in the eastern part of the Southern District of Hong Kong. In addition to Shek O Beach, it also includes Shek O Country Park and Cape D’Aguilar. Shek O is a peninsula on the southern coast of Hong Kong Island, facing the South China Sea. With beautiful scenery and a tranquil environment, many Cantopop music videos have been filmed here. It has also served as the backdrop for numerous romance novels and literary works set along the “Shek O seaside.”

Shek O Beach

Located in the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island, Shek O Beach is classified as a Grade 2 beach under the Environmental Protection Department’s Beach Grading System, indicating fair water quality. The beach features clear water and fine sand, and is staffed with lifeguards. Nearby, there are restaurants and barbecue sites. As a result, many people visit during holidays to swim and have barbecues. Additionally, the cliffs on the beach are great spots for sport climbing.

Shek O Beach is relatively remote and not easily accessible by public transport. There are several parking lots near the beach, so some visitors choose to drive there in private cars.

Due to its distance from the hustle and bustle of the city, the area around Shek O Beach retains a natural environment. The sand here is also finer and softer than that of nearby Stanley Beach, which adds to its appeal.
