Dragon’s Back, Hong Kong

Dragon’s Back in Hong Kong is located on the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island, atop Tai Long Wan Peak. At its base lies Shek O, offering views eastward to the Tathong Channel and westward to Big Wave Bay. The Red Hill Peninsula and Stanley Main Beach are also visible from here. The hill stands at an elevation of 284 meters.

The hike up Dragon’s Back is not particularly challenging. Although there are few large trees providing shade along the way, there are occasional small bamboo groves that offer some respite from the sun. Along the trail, you’ll find large rocks and benches where you can rest. From Dragon’s Back, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Shek O, and the golf course is also clearly visible. If you start from To Tei Wan, you can choose among three major exit points at the end of your hike: Big Wave Bay, South Bay in Siu Sai Wan, and Tai Tam Reservoir—making it extremely convenient.

The area has a subtropical climate with relatively high temperatures year-round. The average annual temperature is 22.8°C. Summers are hot and humid, with temperatures ranging between 26–30°C, while winters are cool and dry, though temperatures rarely drop below 5°C. The months from May to September are rainy, and July to September mark the peak typhoon season in Hong Kong. Please plan your trip according to the weather conditions.

Getting There: To reach the starting point, To Tei Wan Village: Take Bus 9 from the Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus at Exit A3 of the Shau Kei Wan MTR Station, and get off at the To Tei Wan Bus Stop on Shek O Road.
