Ping Shan Heritage Trail

Introduction The Ping Shan Heritage Trail is situated in Ping Shan Heung, Yuen Long District, New Territories, Hong Kong. It encircles the villages of Hang Tau Tsuen, Hang Mei Tsuen, Tong Fong San Tsuen, Hung Uk Tsuen, Kiu Tau Wai, Fui Sha Wai, and Sheung Cheung Wai, spanning about 1 kilometre and featuring multiple iconic traditional Chinese structures. The Tang clan, one of the Five Great Clans of the New Territories, has resided in the area since the 12th century. Recommended by the Antiquities Advisory Board and after years of preparation by the Antiquities and Monuments Office and the Architectural Services Department, the Ping Shan Heritage Trail was officially opened on 12 December 1993 by then-Governor Chris Patten, making it Hong Kong’s first heritage trail. Major heritage sites along the trail include: the Kiu Tsui Pagoda (the only surviving ancient pagoda in Hong Kong and a declared monument), Sheung Cheung Wai (an ancient walled village with a history of 200 years), Yeung Hau Temple (with a history of several hundred years), an ancient well (existing for around 200 years), a communal altar (with a history of several hundred years), the Tang Ancestral Hall (one of the largest ancestral halls in Hong Kong, 700 years old and a declared monument), the Yu Kiu Ancestral Hall (over 500 years old and a declared monument), the King Ling Study Hall (historically used by village students preparing for imperial examinations), the Hung Shing Temple (built during the Qing Dynasty, over 200 years old), and the Ching Shu Hin (over 100 years old). Transportation

1. From Exit A2 of Tsuen Wan Station on the Tsuen Wan Line of the MTR, take Bus 68M to Yuen Long, then transfer to Light Rail Lines 610, 614, or 615 to Ping Shan Station. Walk for 10 minutes to the southern end of the heritage trail. 2. From Exit A1 outside Tsim Sha Tsui Station on the Tsuen Wan Line or Exit A1 at East Tsim Sha Tsui Station (the two stations are connected via corridor and escalators, hence sharing an exit name) on the East Rail Line, take Bus 269B to Tin Yiu Station on Tin Fu Road. 3. From Exit A1 at Yau Ma Tei Station on the Tseung Kwan O Line or Tsuen Wan Line, take Bus 69X and get off at Tin Yiu Station. 4. Exit E at Tin Shui Wai Station on the West Rail Line.
