The SASA beauty retail chain, which gained popularity in Taiwan after originating in Hong Kong, operated 21 stores across the country. Due to sustained annual losses and declining sales, it decided to exit the Taiwan market by the end of March 2018.

Starting in April, a “Bye Bye Sale” will begin, with beauty products discounted by up to 70%, such as
all Pechoin products starting at 60% off,and Korean HANSKIN Rose Bare Face Cream on special for just NT$699. Other bestsellers among beauty enthusiasts include well-known skincare brands like Sekkisei and SK-II, as well as makeup, face masks, and perfumes.

SASA has been operating at a loss in Taiwan for six consecutive years. It entered the Taiwan market in 1997 and had 21 stores in locations including Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. The store near the intersection of Zhongxiao East Road and Da’an Road in Taipei was especially popular among shoppers. Meanwhile, its largest branch in Asia is located at the Nathan Road Nathan Square store in Jordan.

SASA holds a notable position among Asian beauty retail chains.

Aside from its roots in Hong Kong and Macau, SASA International also has locations in China, Singapore, and Malaysia. Now without its Taiwan outlets, the group stated that its overall financial performance remains unaffected, as Taiwan only accounted for about 2.5% of its total revenue.

In recent years, numerous beauty brands have exited the Taiwan market, partly due to the limited market size, and partly because of increased competition from e-commerce and diverse purchasing channels for beauty products. This has fragmented the original market share. Additionally, consumers now compare similar offerings from retailers like Watsons, Poya, and Cosmed, leading to a highly competitive environment with a wide range of choices.
