This stunning view is hard-earned, and every bit of the effort is worth it. You can take a bus or minibus from Sai Kung Market to Pak Tam Au, then follow the MacLehose Trail eastward.

High Island Reservoiris Hong Kong’s largest reservoir by water storage capacity, featuring several dams that connect to the mainland of Sai Kung, with pleasant scenery. Here you can observe a variety of interesting geological formations, such as faults, dykes, and twisted rock columns, and even get a close-up look at world-class hexagonal rock columns. It takes most of a day to hike around the reservoir. You can walk here from Pak Tam Chung, or take a taxi from there or Sai Kung Market to the East Dam—the full loop takes nearly a whole day.
