Hong Kong’s “Hui Lau Shan,” known for its handmade health-conscious desserts, made its return to Taiwan in October. The first branch opened in the Nanjing East Road shopping district, and the second branch is set to debut on December 24 at the Taipei ATT branch of the Mainland China hotpot brand Huang Ji Huang, forming a dual-brand combined store. To celebrate the launch of the combined store, from now until December 19, any married couple with one spouse surnamed Huang and the other surnamed Xu can fill out a form on the official fan page. Five lucky couples will have the chance to enjoy Hui Lau Shan’s Hong Kong-style desserts along with Huang Ji Huang’s three-juice braised hotpot for free.

The 60-year-old Hong Kong-style dessert icon “Hui Lau Shan” opened its first Taiwan branch on October 21 at No. 3, Section 3, Nanjing East Road, Taipei City. The Taiwan flagship store adopts the signage of Hui Lau Shan’s founding store in Yuen Long, recreating the classic visual style of Hong Kong’s first herbal tea shop in Yuen Long back in the 1960s. The store has 46 seats and features a simple yet textured décor in a soft yellow tone. In addition to Hong Kong-style desserts, the Taiwan branch also offers light meals such as Hong Kong-style radish cake, Korean fried chicken, and country-style savory pies, ensuring customers can fill up after enjoying their sweets. The Taiwan flagship store also exclusively offers a limited-edition item — Super Mango with Small Tapioca Pearls — which uses seasonal mangoes selected for their sweetness and juiciness, paired with Taiwan’s famous “small tapioca pearls,” creating a delightful fusion of Hong Kong and Taiwanese flavors.

Huang Ji Huang’s three-juice braised hotpot is an upgraded version of a famous Qing Dynasty dish, Spicy Fish in Sauce. The cooking process involves not adding a single drop of water, earning it the title of a “hotpot without soup.” The bottom layer is lined with root vegetables, followed by various customer-selected main ingredients, then the pot is covered to allow the ingredients to be “braised.” This process allows the natural flavors of the vegetables and main ingredients to meld together. After about 10 minutes, a secret sauce is added and poured over the braised ingredients, allowing them to marinate and absorb the flavors.

In addition to inviting “Mr. and Mrs. Huang & Xu” to dine for free, the grand opening event of the Huang Ji Huang & Hui Lau Shan combined store will also offer “Grain-by-Grain Mango Splash” giveaways from December 20 to 23. Customers who make a purchase in-store, like the post, and check in will receive one exchange coupon for the “Grain-by-Grain Mango Splash,” with a daily limit of 100 cups. On December 24, the first 30 customers wearing red or green accessories will receive either a portion of red bean paste matcha glutinous rice balls or a cup of watermelon pandan splash (16oz). From December 25 to 30, customers who purchase any item in-store, like the post, and check in will receive a 50% discount on add-on handcrafted beverages or winter menu items.
