One new confirmed case of H7N9 flu reported; Guangdong added to yellow travel alert zone

The Central Epidemic Command Center announced on November 5 that there was one new confirmed case of H7N9 flu in Guangdong Province, mainland China. The center has raised the travel epidemic advisory level for the province to the second tier — Alert — the same as for Zhejiang Province. Based on the decision of the Central Epidemic Command Center, the Mainland Affairs Council has included Guangdong Province in the yellow travel alert area, and reminds the public to pay special attention to travel safety and consider whether to visit the region. If travel to such areas is necessary, individuals should enhance their self-health protection.

The Mainland Affairs Council stated that the H7N9 flu virus continues to exist in the environment and the threat of transmission has not yet been eliminated, so vigilance remains necessary. Taiwanese traveling to mainland China should continue to take care of their own health, maintain good hygiene practices such as frequent handwashing and wearing masks, avoid touching or feeding birds, stay away from traditional markets where live poultry are sold, and ensure poultry meat and eggs are thoroughly cooked. Upon returning to Taiwan, if symptoms such as fever or cough occur, please immediately wear a mask, seek medical attention, and inform the doctor of your travel history.
