With guidance from the Taichung City Government’s Economic Development Bureau and in collaboration with the Taichung Good Gifts Association, local business districts in Taichung hired a gift design expert from Japan to explore existing gift packaging designs and storytelling marketing strategies. This initiative aims to attract both domestic and international tourists, encouraging them to shop locally and further promoting the development and commercial potential of Taichung’s distinctive district tourism.
The Taiwan-Japan District Exchange Learning Event was held across Taichung’s signature business districts, featuring on-site visits and small-scale discussion sessions. Business owners expressed great enthusiasm about learning about Japan’s most distinctive gift design elements and expressed hope for continued exchanges that could help promote their unique district products on the global stage.
In addition to discussing gift packaging culture, the event also connected the unique and charming attractions of various districts, aiming to create one-day or multi-day travel itineraries to attract international visitors. Whether travelers are looking to enjoy gourmet food, explore historical sites, engage in hands-on crafts, or go on shopping sprees, Taichung’s signature business districts can meet all their needs.
Luo Jinzhou, a business owner in the Guguan Hot Spring area, said that the Guguan district boasts Taichung’s longest-standing hot spring culture. Through collaboration with other districts, they have created more diverse cultural experiences. They will also invest in designing gifts that best represent Guguan’s culture, hoping that visitors will leave with satisfying souvenirs.
Huang Ziyu, honorary convener of Jingming 1st Street, mentioned that Taichung has recently seen an increasing number of Japanese visitors. She hopes that the local pearl milk tea and spicy hot pot food cultures can serve as gateway attractions, while also promoting the unique features of different districts to travelers from around the world.
Hino, president of a Japanese tourism company, pointed out that during this trip, he visited many distinctive business districts. If properly connected, these could form numerous tourist routes, attracting not only Taiwanese but also a continuous stream of Japanese visitors. He looks forward to boosting the future development and commercial potential of Taichung’s signature district tourism. Additionally, regarding gift products, he hopes to incorporate local stories and culture to enhance the appeal of distinctive merchandise.
