Mongolian Temple

Mongolian Temple, commonly known as "Dazi Temple," is located in the high mountainous area of southern Shawan County, facing the tourist destination Shuigou across the mountains. It lies 87 kilometers north of the county seat and sits at an altitude of 1,918 meters.

The temple is referred to by the Mongolian people themselves as "Foyetang." Historical records indicate that during the Ming Dynasty, this area was part of the territory of the Oirat Mongol tribes. According to local legends and the "Lulai County Annals Map," the Mongolian Temple was initially built in the late Ming Dynasty. Due to the lush spruce forests and fertile grasslands, it was considered a prime natural pasture and regarded by the Oirat Mongol herders as a heaven-sent "blessed land." As a result, it became a gathering place for Mongolian herders to worship the heavens, pray to the gods, and seek blessings.

Currently, the temple structures have long since vanished, leaving only the original foundation walls and footings as the sole remnants of the ancient site. This area is situated at a high elevation but features gently sloping terrain and a cool climate. Behind the scenic zone lie layers of snow-capped peaks that never melt, crowned by the 3,390-meter-high "Xuelao Dam." On both sides are Shuigou and Huiyang Gully. Along the side facing Shuigou, steep cliffs and precipices line the winding mountain road, which twists and turns through the dramatic landscape, creating a scene both perilous and magnificent.

Watching the sunrise at Mongolian Temple is considered an absolute highlight of the scenery. At dawn, amidst a sea of clouds and mist, the surrounding peaks appear like islands, with surging clouds resembling tides. A red sun bursts forth from the sea of clouds, casting a golden glow, dyeing the forests in brilliant hues. Countless ridges and valleys emerge and vanish amid the vibrant clouds and rosy light, sparking boundless imagination.
