Want to enjoy the water in summer without sunbathing on the crowded beach or spending money at water parks? New Taipei and Keelung have plenty of fun, free water activities. Some let you swim freely in the sea, some let you bask in the forest’s fresh air, and there are family-friendly water trails and streams perfect for cooling off in the hot summer!

Heping Island Coastal Park

Located in Keelung, Heping Island Coastal Park has been transformed into a local water recreation spot. In addition, the park features abundant natural landscapes where you can witness the wonders of nature — it's truly an outdoor nature classroom. On hot summer days, you can also swim freely in the sea and enjoy a different kind of vitality compared to a pool.

Wanggu Waterfall

"Wanggu Waterfall" is located near Wanggu Station. The trail is quite gentle and easy to walk, allowing you to enjoy the forest’s fresh air. After about ten minutes, you’ll see the "Wanggu Waterfall." The white waterfall cascading down the rocky cliff complements the emerald-green pool below, with crystal-clear waters. Without traveling all the way to Mugu Muyu, you can still enjoy such beautiful scenery. Take off your shoes, sit on the rocks, and soak your feet while enjoying the coolness from beneath your feet under the sun — it’s a lot of fun.

Hupotan Stream

Located in Shuangxi District, New Taipei City, "Hupotan" is somewhat remote but offers a serene and peaceful environment. Surrounded by lush greenery and with crystal-clear waters, it’s a favorite spot for locals to cool off and enjoy the water. Additionally, there is an old mountain trail here — the Hupotan Ancient Trail — which once connected Shuangxi Daping and Yilan Neidaxi. It’s now a popular hiking and leisure route for many hikers.
