North Coast Kite Festival: A Colorful Spectacle in the Sky and on the Ground

This year, in addition to inviting domestic and international kite flying teams to gather at Baishawan for competitions and performances, the opening day of the event will feature a grand opening show including stunt kites on land and surf kites at sea, kicking off this year's festivities. Furthermore, teams from France, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia have been invited, along with two teams led by Belgium’s Alain Micquiaux and Germany’s Volker, whose works will make their debut under the blue skies of New Taipei City’s North Coast. Alain Micquiaux, long renowned in Europe, creates kites that are both realistic and dreamlike, presenting an incredible floating beauty against the sunset by the sea.

In addition, this year the Shimen District Office has planned community workshops themed around “wind,” featuring the creation and teaching of windmills, wind chimes, and kites. The creations will also be displayed on the first floor of the Baishawan Visitor Center during the main event. There will also be kid-friendly windmill DIY activities, parent-child wind art painting fun, Shimen nature and ecology knowledge challenges, and exciting performances by university clubs, allowing everyone to experience a variety of kite-related activities and culture.
