The Qiongbola Ancient Tombs

The Qiongbola Ancient Tombs are located on the southern slope of Qiongbola Village, Qiongbola Township, Qapqal Xibe Autonomous County. They are accessible via a gravel road, making them relatively easy to reach. The site sits at an altitude of 1,380 meters. The tombs are distributed on the foothills east of the mouth of the Qiongbola Valley, at the northern foot of the Wusun Mountains, with approximately 150 tombs in total. These can be divided into three clusters. The majority are located within a 1-kilometer range east of the mouth of the Qiongbola Valley, totaling over 100 tombs. Among these, there is one large tomb with a burial mound 2 meters high and about 30 meters in diameter, surrounded by a ring-shaped stone structure 0.8 meters wide. There are also over 20 medium-sized tombs, with mounds about 1 meter high and 10–13 meters in diameter. The rest are small tombs, around 0.3–0.5 meters high and 3–6 meters in diameter. On the eastern slope of the valley east of the lower edge of the eastern slope, mixed with modern graves, there are over 40 medium and small tombs. 0 tombs, most of which have small burial mounds, some of which have been damaged due to road construction. All the tombs feature earthen mounds, some with a scattering of small pebbles on top, and a few are entirely made of piled stones. The mounds are generally small, with most medium-sized tombs arranged in groups of three to five aligned from north to south. A couple of bronze artifacts have been unearthed from the site. Based on their style, they may be relics of the Saka culture from the Warring States period, suggesting that the tombs date back to around that time. The tomb complex is situated along the route to the Qiongbola area and remains in its natural state, with no visible protection measures in place.
