The remains of Gao Laozhuang are located in the central area of the ancient Guimo Kingdom site in Wensu, covering an area of about 3 mu. The buildings are made of rammed earth, with approximately 18 rooms. Historical records indicate that from 629 to 649 AD, during the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty, the famous monk Xuanzang set out from Chang'an on a 17-year journey to India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures. While passing through the Musu'er Ridge (now the Muzhaite Ancient Road in Wensu County) within the territory of the ancient Guimo Kingdom in the Western Regions, he stayed overnight at Gao Laozhuang. It is said that Zhu Bajie from Journey to the West took up residence and married in Gao Laozhuang. During the Cultural Revolution, the settlement was destroyed, leaving only the ruins of the settlement and a stone tablet inscribed with the words “Gao Laozhuang.”
