Bao Lake Park

Bao Lake is located in Baofuqiao Village, Liangtian Town, Jinfeng District, Yinchuan City, and is a national wetland park. It covers an area of nearly 1,000 acres, including over 500 acres of water surface. As an urban lake within Yinchuan, it connects with the Greater and Lesser West Lakes. To its east lies the Tanglai Canal, to its west the Zhengyuan South Road, to its north the Yinxin Railway Special Line, and to its south Baqing West Road. It is named after its resemblance to a yuanbao (ingot) and the legend of a golden colt living in the lake, and has an oval shape. With a broad water surface and relatively deep water—over two meters at its deepest—the lake has a light blue hue and is surrounded by reeds and interconnected marshes. Locals in Yinchuan often come here to bird-watch and fish during their leisure time.

There are two theories about the origin of the name “Bao Lake”: one says the lake looks like a shining silver yuanbao (treasure ingot), hence the name “Bao Lake” (Treasure Lake); the other claims there is real treasure in the lake, making it the most precious among Ningxia’s Seventy-Two Connected Lakes, thus earning the name “Bao Lake.”
