We rarely get up early on a weekend, but we made an exception just to try the pan-fried dumplings from this 30-year-old shop. We’d already heard of Jinlong and Jinfeng pan-fried dumplings. After trying Jinlong last time, our foodie friends couldn’t stop talking about Jinfeng. So the very next day, we got up bright and early and hurried over to Sanchong to find these highly recommended Jinfeng pan-fried dumplings.

At first, we couldn’t even find the shop. After walking back and forth on the main road twice, we finally spotted the Jinfeng signboard by the roadside — and there was already a line of people waiting. Although it’s a storefront, they don’t offer indoor seating. We later found out online that their Nanzih Maritime & Vocational School branch (No. 201, Haizhuan Rd.) does have seating, so friends in northern Kaohsiung can check out that location.

Inside, one of the ladies was busy wrapping the dumplings, while two aunties outside were frying them nonstop — their hands never stopped moving, which is why the line moved so quickly.

Thanks to the orderly queue, we got our turn pretty soon. All we had to do was tell the auntie how many pieces we wanted.

The shop has thoughtfully put up a price list. Just check the chart to see the price for however many dumplings you want — super convenient, right?

The stall also keeps pre-packed seasoning packets on hand. Make sure to grab one — they really enhance the flavor of the pan-fried dumplings. The packets usually contain scallions, garlic, chili, and other spices.

The bottom of the dumplings is pan-fried until golden brown, so the wrappers aren’t overly crispy or hard. Drizzle on the sauce, and they’re even tastier.

The filling is mostly cabbage with not much ground meat. The cabbage is sweet and fresh, and when paired with the sauce, the overall taste and texture are rich and truly delicious.

Fresh milk tea — NT$20 / small cup
The shop also sells drinks: black tea, fresh milk tea, and regular milk tea. We picked up a fresh milk tea to drink on the go. It wasn’t too sweet and tasted pretty good.

This 30-year-old shop really lives up to its reputation. Not only are the pan-fried dumplings cheap and tasty, but they’re even better with the sauce drizzled on top. They make a great breakfast or afternoon snack. There’s also a branch on Haizhuan Rd. in Nanzih, northern Kaohsiung — a real treat for locals up there. Shadow plans to visit Nanzih again soon and share more findings with everyone.
