Beihai Pond

Beihai Pond is located about eight li north of Yuanzhou District in Guyuan. It is a scenic area that combines garden culture with temple culture—this is what locals in Guyuan refer to as the "Beihai." Though called a sea, it is actually a spring-fed lake, a pool of clear water that remains unfrozen even in the depths of winter and flows year-round. The ancients called it the Warm Spring, while scholars and poets referred to it as the North Fish Pond or Peng Marsh. The water surface spans several dozen zhang in size, with depths of over ten feet. The surrounding shallows, commonly known as "maola," are lush with irises in vibrant green. The banks are lined with weeping willows, home to various species of birds. With birds chirping and singing, the area is brimming with vitality and charm. It attracts the most visitors from the blooming spring season to the fruitful autumn months.
