May 19 China Tourism Day | “1+15+81+N” Cultural and Tourism Benefit Series Creates a Better Life

The 2019 Beijing sub-venue event of China Tourism Day, jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Tongzhou District, will be held in Tongzhou District, Beijing on May 19. The theme of this year’s China Tourism Day is “Integration of Culture and Tourism, A Better Life,” advocating continuous integration of culture and tourism, continued improvement of service quality, and making cultural tourism a new driving force for people’s better lives.

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has launched a series of “1+15+81+N” benefit and convenience measures for China Tourism Day. Here, “1” refers to the Beijing sub-venue set up in Tongzhou District, “15” denotes the other 15 district sub-venues in Beijing, “81” indicates that 73 Beijing 4A-level and 8 5A-level scenic spots will host themed activities for China Tourism Day by optimizing tourism products and enhancing service quality to offer visitors a better experience; “N” refers to the diverse cultural tourism events and benefit measures introduced by various scenic areas, featuring several key aspects: First, highlighting the integration of culture and tourism. For example, Xicheng District’s collaboration with the National Centre for the Performing Arts to launch tourism benefit activities; the Summer Palace Ruins Park in Haidian District offering free admission on the Cultural Heritage Day (the second Saturday of June every year); Fengtai District Library distributing free reading cards as part of its 5·19 cultural benefit program; and the Juyi Mountain Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall in the Jiadong Grand Canyon of Pinggu District being open to the public free of charge, among others. Second, offering discounted or free admission to scenic spots. For instance, the China Red Sandalwood Museum in Chaoyang District will provide free entry on China Tourism Day; the Beijing Auto Museum in Fengtai District will offer free visits to all citizens and tourists, who can enter by collecting tickets on-site or making online reservations, among others. Third, services targeting special groups. Scenic spots in districts such as Dongcheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai, Tongzhou, Daxing, Shunyi, and Pinggu will offer discounted or free admission to model workers, advanced individuals, military personnel or armed police, as well as seniors, minors, and people with disabilities. Fourth, promoting family and parent-child travel. Attractions like Happy Valley in Chaoyang District, Beijing Wildlife Park in Daxing District, Lido Fantasy Park in Changping District, and Yuyang International Ski Resort in Pinggu District will implement ticket discounts or exemptions for those visiting with family or friends, encouraging family and parent-child outings. For specific arrangements, please refer to the “Beijing 5·19 China Tourism Day Benefit Policy Summary Table.”

It is understood that in addition to the 81 Beijing 4A-level and above scenic spots setting up promotional display venues for China Tourism Day, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism will hold an opening ceremony and themed event at the Han Meilin Art Museum in Beijing on China Tourism Day to advocate for benefit tourism and civilized tourism, and promote deeper integration of culture and tourism in terms of concepts, functions, industries, markets, and international exchanges. Through “culture going out” and “tourism coming in,” the aim is to tell the story of Beijing, spread its voice, showcase its image, and continuously enhance the soft power of the capital’s culture and the international influence of its tourism.

In addition, relevant officials from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism remind the public that as May 19 falls on a weekend this year, some scenic spots are expected to see large crowds. Visitors are advised to prepare in advance and plan their trips accordingly.
