Northwest Agricultural Museum

The Northwest Agricultural Museum is the only specialized museum in the five northwestern provinces (regions) that focuses on agricultural culture as its exhibition theme. The museum centers on the agricultural culture of Ningxia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, and Xinjiang, and follows the development and evolution of agricultural tools in the northwest as its main thread. Using a display method that blends traditional art with modern technology, it comprehensively showcases the history of agricultural development in the northwest, cultural relics, farming implements, and crop varieties. It scientifically highlights the process of agricultural development in the region, as well as the perseverance, unyielding spirit, and the broad, simple, and vibrant cultural characteristics of the laboring people who have struggled against the harsh and arid natural conditions.

The Northwest Agricultural Museum is located to the north of the Municipal Party School on Gaoping Road in Guyuan City, covering an area of over 20 acres. With a total investment of more than 30 million yuan, the museum has a total construction area of 4,050 square meters, including 3,200 square meters for the main exhibition hall. Green space accounts for 33.4% of the total land area.

The main exhibition hall is divided into a prelude hall, an epilogue hall, and seven thematic sections: “Primitive Society,” “Pre-Qin Period Agriculture,” “Qin-Han to Sui-Tang Period Agriculture,” “Song-Yuan-Ming-Qing Period Agriculture,” “Modern and Contemporary Agriculture,” as well as three special exhibition areas: “Evolution of Carts,” “Agricultural Hundred Crafts,” and “Top Ten Figures in Agricultural History.” It displays a total of 3 large-scale bas-reliefs, one standing statue each of Shennong and Houji, over 2,000 cultural relics and implements, including 156 third-grade or above cultural relics, 4 large oil paintings, 60 crop variety specimens, 100 agricultural books and portraits, and 239 exhibition panels of various sizes.
