Yuanjiang Qingkou Hani Ethnic Folk Village is located 6 kilometers south of the old county town of Yuanjiang — Xinjie Town, situated on a mountainside and covering an area of about 5 hectares. The village has around 150 households and a population of over 800. Along the stone-paved walking trails in the village, visitors can experience the essence of Hani terraced field culture within just a few hours. Not only can they admire the magnificent terraced fields, but also observe various production and daily life facilities such as Hani mushroom houses, village god forests, irrigation channels, water-dividing wood carvings, water mills, and pestle-and-mortar workshops. They can also see traditional Hani tools like ethnic costumes, plows, hoes, rakes, and looms. The exhibition area also features two crystal-clear springs: White Dragon Spring and Longevity Spring.

It is said that those who cannot have children will be blessed with offspring after drinking water from “White Dragon Spring,” and those who drink from “Longevity Spring” will enjoy a long life.

This forest–village–terraced field–water system “four-in-one” ecosystem is a living system, a unique creation by the Hani people to transform nature and convert a natural ecology into an agricultural one. It is a perfect example of the harmony between human activity and natural ecology.

Transportation

[Bus]

1. From Kunming South Bus Station, take the Kunming–Yuanyang bus. There are three daily departures at 10:20, 12:30, and 19:00. The fare is 139 RMB per person, and the journey takes 5–6 hours.

2. Most buses from Kunming South Bus Station go to Nansha Town, the county seat. Travel between Xinjie Town and Nansha is convenient, with minibuses specifically serving the route (10 RMB per person, running every 10–20 minutes from 7:00 to 20:00). From Xinjie Town to the scenic area gate, and between the gates and various sites, minibuses are available for 5–10 RMB.

3. You can also take a bus from Kunming to Jianshui or Gejiu, then transfer to reach Yuanyang.

Upon arrival in Yuanyang, take a local minibus to the site, with fares around 5 RMB per person.

Hiring a car in the old county town for a one-day terraced field tour costs about 300 RMB. A trip to Tiger Mouth costs around 100 RMB, and a half-day sunrise trip to Duoyishu costs approximately 150–200 RMB.
