The Art of Carving on the Earth Yuanyang Terraces

The Yuanyang Terraces are located in Yuanyang County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, in the southern part of the Ailao Mountain Range. They are a masterpiece left behind by generations of the Hani people. In the undulating Ailao Mountains, the Hani people of Yuanyang have built terraces that wind around the mountains in dozens to thousands of layers, stacked and curved according to the terrain. After the autumn harvest, clear water fills the fields. Bathed in the morning and evening light, the 190,000 acres of terraces radiate a captivating glow. Head to the rapeseed flower fields of Luoping, Yunnan, to find the most brilliant spring. Luoping in Yunnan is one of the first places in the country where rapeseed flowers bloom each year. From February to March, the 800,000-acre sea of rapeseed flowers blooming among the karst peaks of the Luoping Basin is at its most beautiful, fully showcasing the unique charm of the world’s largest naturally-formed garden. Amid the deep green mountains, patches of rapeseed flowers emerge, glowing with dazzling yellow. The Luoping rapeseed sea is golden, it wafts a fragrant scent, and it plays the tune of a pastoral song.
