The Duliu River is one of the sources of the Pearl River and the largest river in Rongjiang County. Historically, it served as a key waterway hub between Guizhou and Guangxi provinces. In the past, the Duliu River was bustling with boats, and the Guzhou Dock used to accommodate around 300 vessels daily on average. Lined with verdant mountains and clear waters, layered peaks, and dense groves of ancient banyan trees and bamboo, the riverbanks form a natural barrier. Viewed from afar, they resemble a vast, turbulent sea of green, with Miao villages, Dong hamlets, and stilted houses nestled among them—offering breathtaking scenery. The riverside boasts a rich tapestry of ethnic cultures. The area is also densely populated with pristine forests, high mountains, valleys, streams, waterfalls, cascades, and rare flowers and trees. Within Rongjiang County, you can find Qing Dynasty stone arch bridges, as well as natural wonders such as the Red Cliffs Spanning the River, the Immortal Cave, and the Zhuge Cave. Some Qing literati once summarized the scenery of the Duliu River as the “Eight Scenic Spots of Guzhou.” So, what exactly are these Eight Scenic Spots? The “Eight Scenic Spots of Guzhou” are the most famous attractions along the Duliu River. Eminent figures from the Ming and Qing dynasties composed inscriptions or bestowed names upon them, including: “Emerald Hue of Five Banyans,” “Fishing Fires of Three Rivers,” “Stone Scriptures in Ancient Caves,” “Red Cliffs Spanning the River,” “Lone Boat Beneath Moon and Stars,” “Ink Brush Writing Clouds,” “Starry Night Watch,” and “Solitary Rock Reversing the Current.”
