Spring and summer are the most dreamlike seasons in Matsu！A few years ago, waves of faint blue light on the sea surface resembled the magical scenery from the movie *Life of Pi*, propelling Matsu’s tourism to another milestone. This year, the Lienchiang County Government has planned the “Matsu Blue Tears Series of Events,” and today (the 12th), the launch ceremony was held in the hall of Taipei Main Station, officially announcing to the nation and the world: “The Matsu Blue Tears are here！”

Liu Zeng-ying, Magistrate of Lienchiang County, said that the Blue Tears, once voted one of the world’s 15 greatest natural wonders by CNN, have in recent years drawn domestic and even international travelers on “tear-chasing” trips. Especially this year, starting May 19, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration introduced a “nighttime rowing” experience to admire the Blue Tears in the Beihai Tunnel of Nangan. Under completely light-pollution-free conditions, the Blue Tears shimmer like stars, creating a dreamlike spectacle. He said, “Besides the Blue Tears, visitors to Matsu shouldn’t miss the mythical Black-faced Spoonbill that appears in summer, as well as the magnificent granite landforms and the ingenious craftsmanship of the tunnels. Now is the perfect time to visit Matsu.”

This year, the organizers have also planned the third photography competition, adding a new photography category, with the first prize award reaching NT$50,000. At the same time, there are limited subsidies for photography groups visiting Matsu, along with a “Matsu Three-Day-Two-Night Buy-One-Get-One-Free” package and exquisite gifts. Photography enthusiasts and “tear-chasing pros” are welcome to participate and share, transforming fleeting moments of Blue Tears into something eternal. Each of the four township islands has also introduced guided experience tours and beautiful small gifts for participating visitors.
Starting May 30, photography exhibitions will also be held successively at the Taipei Banqiao 435 Art Zone, Taichung Cultural and Creative Industries Park, and the Tainan Park Road 321 Alley Art Collective, showcasing works from the previous two editions of the “tear-chasing pros” photography contest.
