Sanchahe Scenic Area

The Sanchahe Tourism Resort is situated within the experimental zone of the Xishui National Forest Park and National Nature Reserve in Guizhou (covering an area of 8,680 hectares), 43 kilometers from Xishui County. To the north, it borders the Simian Mountain National Scenic Area in Jiangjin, Chongqing, across a shared mountain ridge, and is adjacent to the Fobao National Forest Park in Sichuan. To the west, it connects with the Chishui National Scenic Area, while to the south, it reaches the Maotai Town in Renhuai City—known as the hometown of China’s national liquor—and the Langjiu Distillery in Gulin County, Sichuan. It lies at the heart of the tourism golden triangle formed by Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing.

Sanchahe boasts majestic mountains and beautiful waters, offering a quaint and serene atmosphere. The scenic area retains well-preserved vegetation, where native plants and danxia landforms combine to form extraordinary natural landscapes. The green forests and red cliffs complement each other beautifully. Within the area, there are nine valleys and eighteen forks, all interconnected—truly “each valley reveals murmuring streams, and every fork displays secluded orchids.” Danxia rocks stand tall on the mountainsides, and nature’s masterful craftsmanship has created unique rock formations such as the Mountain God, the Untitled Heavenly Book, the Divine Palm Subduing Demons, the Lovers’ Rocks, the One-Pillar Sky-Supporting Rock, and the Flying Immortal Stone. These mysterious and vividly shaped sights are a feast for the eyes, offering endless delight and making visitors linger in awe. Without the divine artistry of nature, even the most skilled brush could never capture these natural masterpieces.

Sanchahe embodies human harmony and tranquility. The scenic area is rich in historical and cultural significance, where human landscapes blend harmoniously with the natural scenery. Cliff carvings from the third year of the Zhangwu era of the Shu Han Dynasty (223 AD), over 1,700 years ago, remain clearly defined despite the passage of time, with full lines and profound meanings, ranking among the finest examples of cliff carvings. Yuan Jindao, an industrialist from the Qing Dynasty, harnessed local resources to establish 48 factories, pioneering industry in Guizhou. The ruins of these 48 factories and workshops still exist today, seemingly still in operation, serving as a testament to future generations and showcasing an industrial scale rarely seen nationwide. Yuan Jindao’s Wangxiantai Grottoes, painstakingly carved into cliffs and rocks with “no expense spared in hiring craftsmen,” are the foremost grottoes in Guizhou—a fusion of temple and shrine, where humans and deities are sculpted together. With “majestic peaks, soaring cliffs, cranes circling, dragons roaring, clouds flying, and mist swirling, as if in the immortal realm of Penglai,” these ancient relics along with resplendent temples resemble a heavenly paradise, a rare sight in the world. Additionally, ancient structures such as flower towers, old tombs, and memorial archways are clearly visible, blending seamlessly with the natural landscape and adding boundless charm, highlighting the area’s profound cultural heritage.
