King Fir Scenic Area

Xishui County has built a park and entrance gate for the "King Fir of China," acclaimed as the "foremost of China" after enduring 800 years of wind, snow, and rain, and known as the greatest of its kind in China. The surrounding green mountains have been enhanced with afforestation and conservation efforts, establishing the "King Fir of China Scenic Area Forest Park." The King Fir of China is a miracle in China and even the world—an isolated tree with a straight trunk, deep roots, lush foliage. It stands 44.8 meters tall, with a diameter at breast height of 2.23 meters, a crown spread of 22.7 meters, and a trunk volume of 84 cubic meters; research suggests that this tree is approximately 800 years old. The Matanggeng Village Gate is a key passageway from the King Fir of China to Shikan River and the Yuandong Cave, located at the highest point of the King Fir area. From here, visitors can enjoy sunrise views and sea of clouds, and in winter, snow scenery.

Peacock Pool and Nan Bamboo Grove The Peacock Pool is an artificial dam built at the source of Shikan River. It is 110 meters long, up to 50 meters wide, and 6 meters deep, covering a water surface area of nearly 2,000 square meters. It is surrounded by lush forests and bamboo groves, which are home to nationally protected tree species such as the Liriodendron chinense, as well as ornamental plants including maples, lilies, azaleas, and camellias. Extending along the western side is a 350-acre nan bamboo forest on relatively flat terrain. Located at an altitude of 1,400–1,450 meters, the area experiences harsh winters, and under normal circumstances, nan bamboo does not thrive well here. However, the nan bamboo community here has a stable structure and is one of the best leisure spots within the park. There is also a massive wild camellia tree within the bamboo grove, standing 8.5 meters tall, with a crown spread of 4 meters, a diameter at breast height of 14 centimeters, and blooming period from February to April.
