Revolutionary martyr Wu Xueli once lived here and carried out revolutionary activities. The Masses Newspaper (《大众报》) he founded was the earliest progressive publication in southern Guizhou. This place was also once a stationing site for the Red Army during the Long March. On the weathered walls of several village houses in Songgang Village, the bold red slogans written by the Red Army soldiers can still be faintly discerned. Those vivid and powerful characters are like a blazing flame, an unwavering faith, and even more like a plump seed taking root and sprouting in the hearts of the local people. The elders in the village can recount in detail the touching stories of the Red Army's passage through this area. A complete set of traditional handmade papermaking techniques is still preserved here, bearing witness to the solid footsteps of human progress through civilization.
