Nantou’s Alternative New Attraction: Tea Erzhi Tea Garden Kicks Creativity Up a Notch

Located in Minxian Township, Nantou, the area boasts a superior geographical environment ideal for tea tree growth and is Taiwan’s top tea-producing town. A small Tea Erzhi Story House has recently opened there, passing on century-old tea-making experience in a fun and innovative way. It aims to promote Taiwan’s unique warmth and hospitality along with traditional tea culture to more people, while also showcasing the history and innovation of Taiwanese tea.

The Tea Erzhi Tea House was formerly known as Changshun Tea House, with nearly a century of history in the tea business. It’s called Tea Erzhi because the fourth-generation owner lost two fingers while making tea as a child. Rather than hide it, they embraced the incident and named the teahouse Tea Erzhi (“Erzhi” meaning “two fingers”). Other themed characters in the shop are also inspired by fingers—pretty amusing.

The area isn’t very large, mainly consisting of the main hall, factory, green courtyard, and a vast expanse of tea fields nearby. Here, besides the lush green tea gardens, visitors will spot several quirky cardboard cutouts scattered around. Paired with the white frames beside the tea fields, it’s like having a photo frame capturing the garden view. Every visitor’s first move is to take a picture with them. Then, just upload the photo to Facebook and check in to redeem a free bubble tea from the garden management.
