Changshun Red Army Slogans Memorial

The Changshun Red Army Slogans Memorial is a classic site of red tourism.

In April 1935, after the Central Red Army crossed the Chishui River four times, it feigned an attack on Guiyang. Seizing the opportunity when the Nationalist Kuomintang Yunnan troops were redeployed eastward to reinforce Guiyang, the main force of the Red Army swiftly turned southward, advancing at a speed of 60 kilometers per day through Huishui, Changshun, Ziyun, Xingren, and other areas toward the thinly defended Yunnan, successfully completing the “Four Crossings of the Chishui River.” Subsequently, they executed a strategic maneuver to draw away enemy forces and attacked Jinsha, achieving a decisive and pivotal strategic shift. During the Long March, the Red Army passed through Changshun, leaving behind numerous precious slogans and moving revolutionary stories across 14 townships and 112 natural villages within the county.

This is one of the few remaining, clearly legible, and highly representative sites of Red Army slogans preserved in the county today. On the wall of an ordinary civilian house before us, two Red Army slogans can be clearly seen: “Support the Central Soviet Government’s War against Japan ! Red Unit 11” and “Down with the Kuomintang that refuses to resist Japan but comes to – the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army ! Red Unit 11.” The slogans are written on opposite walls of the house. One slogan, weathered by time and erosion, has its black clerical script faded, while the other, darkened by years of smoke, has the characters “Support the Su” blurred, though the rest remain clear.
