Huishui Lianjiang Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.
Huishui Lianjiang Water Conservancy Scenic Area is situated on the Lianjiang Dam, the largest “plain” in Guizhou, about 48 kilometers from Guiyang City. It is a water conservancy scenic area that takes “rivers, lakes, fields, islands, and mountains” as its core landscape features, and highlights Bouyei ethnic culture, bandit-suppression culture, and pastoral ambiance as its main cultural themes. Blending nature and culture in perfect harmony, the area offers a variety of functions such as sightseeing, rafting, leisure vacations, participatory experiences, and tourism. The scenic area benefits from well-developed urban infrastructure nearby, offering convenient conditions. Located within a multi-ethnic community predominantly inhabited by the Bouyei and Miao peoples, the region boasts simple rural customs and rich ethnic flavors. It is the hometown of the Bouyei folk song “Hao Hua Hong” (Beautiful Red Flower). The story of Cheng Lianzhen, a female bandit leader released under the order of Chairman Mao Zedong, also took place here. This area lies on the sloping transition zone from the central Guizhou Plateau to the hills of Guangxi, situated on the southern slopes of the Miao Mountains.
The Lianjiang Water Conservancy Scenic Area features landscapes centered on the natural beauty of rivers, lakes, fields, islands, and mountains, and highlights ethnic culture, bandit-suppression culture, and pastoral charm as key scenic features. It blends nature and culture harmoniously, and provides diverse functions such as sightseeing, rafting, leisure vacations, participatory experiences, and tourism. It is a key scenic area for the development of tourism in Huishui County.
Due to its unique resource and environmental conditions, Huishui Lianjiang Water Conservancy Scenic Area is abundant in distinctive local products, particularly known in Southwest China for its rich supply of fish and fruit. The scenic area lies within a long, semi-enclosed valley basin surrounded by low hills and mountains along both banks of the Lianjiang River. This forms a special microclimate that is especially suitable for the growth of golden kumquats. Golden kumquats from this area are bright in color, have few seeds, are juicy, pleasantly sweet and sour, tender and seedless, and deliciously fragrant. The area has been honored as the “Home of China’s Golden Kumquats,” as well as the “Home of China’s Black Glutinous Rice,” which enjoys a prestigious reputation both domestically and internationally.
Major attractions include the tranquil Lianjiang River, Boyun Lake, Haili Canyon, Wengyin River, Natural Bridge Cluster, Jiulong Mountain, Yuliantiandi, Botanical Garden, Wild Plum Ridge, Jiulong Tea Garden, golden kumquats, Niuchang Bridge, Huimin Bridge, Yuliang Reservoir, Chongshui Water Diversion Project, Xiaolong Irrigation District, Huiyan Village, Bouyei Fengxiang dyeing, Jiulong Temple, “Hao Hua Hong,” the Hao Hua Hong Art Festival, the Miao Wrestling Festival at Jiulong Mountain, the photo of Chairman Mao Zedong meeting a Bouyei singer from Huishui, folk songs and dances, black glutinous rice, Niutou-brand beef jerky, Huishui hot pot series, and Cheng Lianzhen.
