Huaxi Golden Avenue

Golden Avenue is a famous scenic spot in the Huaxi Scenic Area. Not only locals from Guiyang, but also many out-of-town visitors make it a must-visit destination when they come to Huaxi.

The scenery here varies with the seasons, offering breathtaking views year-round. Of course, its most enchanting time is from late autumn to early winter, especially early winter. In early winter, the scenery of Golden Avenue becomes even more vibrant and splendid. The two rows of towering French plane trees, having endured the entire autumn, still boast dazzling golden leaves. But as it is already winter, hints of iron-red gradually seep into the gold, giving the trees a particularly rich and majestic appearance in the winter breeze. This blend of golden yellow and iron red stretches along the riverbank, interweaving with the emerald green of the water, the fiery red hues of maple leaves, and the evergreen colors of fishing bamboo and holly trees. Together, they form a colorful, three-dimensional oil painting.

Golden Avenue became a tourist attraction after the end of the Cultural Revolution, likely in the late 1970s or early 1980s. At that time, Huaxi Park was a favorite holiday destination for city dwellers, and the natural scenery along the stretch from Huaxi Pingqiao to Huaxi Reservoir was also growing in popularity. The name “Golden Avenue” probably gained traction during this period. As visitor numbers increased, Bus No. 201 extended its route to the area, with a dedicated stop at Pingqiao.

After 2000, the dirt road of Golden Avenue was paved with stone slabs and edged with pebbles for beautification. While some of its former “wild” charm diminished, the upgrade greatly improved walkability.
