Huaxi River

The Huaxi River originates from Bei'ao Rock Mouth in Shigang Township, Baxian County, meandering through vast areas of Baxian before curving around the Huxiao Pass and flowing westward through the Nanzhou Gorge into the Yangtze River.

The Huaxi River was originally named differently in sections: Yantan River in Yantan and Huatanxi in Nanzhou. The name "Huaxi" came from local people naming it due to the flowers along the river. The name "Huaxi River" in Nanzhou was adopted after the Tongxin Dyke was built, replacing “tan” (滩) with “he” (河). Nanzhou Park once constructed a Fish-Watching Pavilion in Huayuan for visitors fishing along the stream, built fishing platforms by the riverbank, and even introduced fish species into the Huaxi. Unfortunately, during the Cultural Revolution, the pavilion and platforms were destroyed, and the fish population dwindled. In recent years, the riverside scenic area has been further developed, with a Waterfall-Viewing Pavilion built by the stream, scenic names engraved along the banks, and new stone embankments constructed at Oujia Beach. For anglers today, fishing in Huaxi offers unique delight: “A rod by winding shores in shaded pools, lines dip and bend as fish bite the hooks; an occasional catch brings joy from the water, yet catching fish brings less cheer than the act itself.”
