Yunxi Watermelon

　　  Yunxi watermelon is a specialty of Yunxi District, Yueyang City, Hunan Province. The watermelons grown in Yunxi District are known for their high sugar content, superior quality, and strong market competitiveness, making them highly favored by consumers.

　　  The cultivation of watermelons in Yunxi has a long history. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the main variety was the Henan "pillow melon"; by the 1980s, seeded varieties such as "Mibao," "Migui," and "Xincheng Zao 1" were widely planted. After 1992, seedless watermelons began to be cultivated, mainly of the Dongting and Xuefeng series. By 1996, the planting area had reached 20,000 mu, with a total output of 40 million kilograms. After 2000, three major brands gradually took shape: the "Wenqiao Brand" from Wenqiao Town, the "Luxun Brand" from Lucheng Town, and the "Caofeng Brand" from Lukou Town.
