Guizhou University

Guizhou University was founded in 1902, having gone through various phases including Guizhou College, Provincial Guizhou University, National Guizhou College of Agriculture and Engineering, and National Guizhou University. In October 1950, it was officially named Guizhou University. In November 1951, Chairman Mao Zedong personally inscribed the university’s name. In August 1997, it merged with institutions such as Guizhou Agricultural College. In August 2004, it merged with Guizhou University of Technology. In December 2004, it became a jointly developed institution by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Guizhou Province. In September 2005, it was included in China’s “211 Project.” In 2012, it was listed as one of the 14 universities under the National “Comprehensive Strength Improvement Project for Universities in Central and Western China.” In April 2016, it was selected as a key university supported under the “One Province, One University” initiative, becoming the only university in Guizhou included in the domestic first-class universities development plan. In September 2017, it became a university for the construction of world-class disciplines.

The university covers an area of 6,117.70 acres. Its library houses over 3.68 million volumes of printed literature and more than 2.1 million volumes of electronic books in Chinese and foreign languages. The university offers a comprehensive range of disciplines, covering 12 fields: literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, management, law, education, and art. It comprises 40 colleges, with 46,549 full-time undergraduate students and 7,575 full-time postgraduate students. The university has a faculty and staff of 3,950, including 2,493 full-time teachers, 445 professors, 853 associate professors, 882 with doctoral degrees, and 1,552 with master's degrees.
