The Shi Family Residence

Located at No. 81 Shatian Road in the old town area, the main building was constructed in the early years of the Republic of China, with the north and south wing rooms added in 1948. The layout is courtyard-style, resembling a traditional quadrangle, covering a total area of 194 square meters. The buildings feature wooden post-and-lintel construction with gabled, hanging roofs. The complex includes a street-facing hallway, north and south wing rooms, and the main house. The main house spans three bays with a width of 11.56 meters and a depth of 7.2 meters, featuring a front porch that is 1.05 meters deep. Each wing room is 2.94 meters wide, while the hallway is 13.3 meters wide and 1.75 meters deep. All rooms are two stories high, with an eave height of 5.15 meters. The architectural layout of this residence is quite unique in that the orientation of the north and south wing rooms aligns with that of the hallway and the main house — meaning the gable ends of the wing rooms face each other, and their eaves connect seamlessly with those of the hallway and main house. This design facilitates drainage and increases the amount of light entering the central courtyard, making the courtyard appear more spacious visually. Such a structural layout is quite rare and the residence is currently well-preserved.
