Wumeng Mountain Jiucailing Scenic Area

Located at the northern end of Dawan Town, Liupanshui City, it can be reached by car in 30 minutes from downtown Liupanshui. At an elevation of over 2,900 meters, Jiucailing is the highest peak in the Wumeng Mountain Range as well as in Guizhou Province. The mountaintop of Jiucailing is gently sloped, forming a broad and intact planation surface. The terrain here is flat and gently undulating, with widespread columnar and bamboo shoot-like rock teeth, erosion grooves, and stone forests, featuring uniquely shaped peaks and grotesque rocks in endless variations.

The scenery of Jiucailing is typical of montane plateau landform. Jiucailing was once part of a quasi-plain of considerable size. Through geological changes during the Cenozoic era, including intense crustal uplift and rapid river downcutting, Jiucailing remains as a remnant of the original quasi-plain, existing between heaven and earth in the form of a semi-summit mountain ridge.

Dawan Town: Dawan Town is located in the northwest of Liupanshui City and is known as the “Western Gateway” of the city. It is an “exclave” of Zhongshan District, Liupanshui, situated at the border area between Weining County and Hezhang County. As the junction of Weining County, Hezhang County, and Zhongshan District, it enjoys strong geographical advantages and is referred to as the “Three-County Interchange.” The town stretches 14 kilometers from east to west and 9 kilometers from north to south, covering a land area of 102 square kilometers, which accounts for one-fourth of the total area of Zhongshan District.
