The Baihe Ecological Zone is situated on the northeastern side of Dewu Subdistrict, roughly rectangular in shape, stretching 4,100 meters from east to west and 2,900 meters from north to south. It connects to the Guiyan Highway to the south and the Shuimei Highway to the east, and lies approximately 2.5 kilometers from the seat of the Zhongshan District government. The area has well-preserved vegetation, featuring 824 mu of arbor forest, 5,300 mu of shrubland dominated by azaleas, and 200 mu of lawn, resulting in a forest (including shrubland) coverage rate of 76%. The central areas—Xianshuipo and Maosajing—boast a forest coverage rate of 90%. In spring, the hillsides burst into a sea of blooming flowers. The region is free from pollution, enjoys excellent vegetation, fresh air, and high-quality mountain spring water. Hiking along the smaller paths offers a unique charm. Behind Qingbi Park, an ancient post road leads to the scenic area. By following this path over the ridge, you’ll arrive at Xianshuipo. On the slope stands a small hill facing south with a cave in the middle, known as the Xianshui Cave. The cave is nearly 7 meters high and wide, and about 30 meters deep. Inside, there is a moon-shaped terrace with a stone figure seated upon it, in front of which lies a stone stool-like platform with a stone cup about the size of a fist. Stalactites hang from the cave ceiling, their drops falling into the cup. Legend has it that those who are ill or infertile can drink the water in the cup to be healed or regain fertility. Due to such miraculous beliefs, the cave is piled high with the remnants of incense, candles, paper, and ashes, and the stone figure’s head is crowned with layers of red and yellow coverings several feet high. Exiting the Immortal Cave and moving forward, you’ll find either dense shrubs and forests or vast lawns like meadows. The wildflowers and grass are refreshing to the eyes and spirit, while the lush pines and cypresses sway in the wind and play with the rain. If you hike here in spring under bright sunshine, you’ll see azaleas competing in beauty across the hills and marvel at the diverse vegetation on the ground. You might spot herders with their sheep and cattle, hardworking farmers tilling the land, travelers having picnics, or birds hopping about. From afar, you can hear the melodies of mountain songs, and up close, the laughter and music of visitors… Ascend to an altitude of 2,015 meters at Xianshuipo, where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of “bustling markets to the south of the mountain and blooming flowers to the north.” This place is truly a rare destination for leisure, vacation, summer retreat, and sightseeing. Every year, tens of thousands of independent travelers visit. The area was designated as the “Baihe Ecotourism Resort” in 2000.
