Temple of Emperor Yu

The Temple of Emperor Yu is located at Xiaonanmen in the county town. It was originally built during the Ming Dynasty, situated east of Xiniu Bridge outside the eastern gate of the county town, and was relocated inside Xiaonanmen in the 13th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1808). The main hall is a single-eave, hip-and-gable roofed structure with nine ridges, featuring a flaming pearl finial on the ridge and complete decorative ridge beasts. It has a front rolled-canopy porch with carved floral dougong brackets underneath, and the eaves are richly adorned with auspicious bracket sets, which feature various floral designs. Four hydrological markers are carved on the stone pillars inside the temple. These markers faithfully record the historical flood peaks of the Jinsha River over the past hundred years, holding significant scientific value for hydrology and providing historical data for the construction of the Gezhouba, Three Gorges, and Xiangjiaba hydropower stations. In 1992, the Temple of Emperor Yu was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit.
