Martyr Shi Shaoqu’s Tomb

Martyr Shi Shaoqu’s Tomb is located within the Pingshan County Martyrs’ Cemetery.

Shi Shaoqu (1892–1931), courtesy name Renshong (or Cong), used the aliases Chen Shuyuan, Deng Ji (or Ji)shi, and Deng Peizhi. He was a native of Pingshan Town, Pingshan County. In 1918, he enrolled in the “Officers' Training Corps” established by the Sichuan Army in Mianyang. After graduation, he successively served as platoon leader, company commander, battalion commander, and regimental commander in the forces of Sichuan Army generals such as Xiong Kewu, Shi Qingyang, Tang Zimo, and Chen Hongfan. Later, he became Chief of Staff of the Provisional 13th Division of the 20th Army of the National Revolutionary Army and Chief of Staff of He Long’s Mixed Brigade. In 1924, he served as Commander of the Luzhou City Defense Forces of the Kuomintang. In 1927, he left the Kuomintang army and exited Sichuan. Soon after, he joined the Chinese Communist Party. In June 1928, he was appointed as a member of the Hubei-West Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, later serving as an Action Committee member of the Hubei-Xi Provincial Committee, Secretary of the Yueyang Special Committee, and Secretary of the Special Committee for the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Region (under the alias Deng Jishi). In May 1930, he established the “Communications Station of the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Communist Party in Yueyang” in Yueyang, Hunan (under the alias Deng Peizhi), which was directly under the leadership of the Yangtze Bureau of the CCP Central Committee, responsible for transmitting documents, letters, and important intelligence. In September of the same year, he presided over a meeting that decided to launch an armed uprising in Yueyang to seize local political power and expand the Soviet area. Later, he was arrested by the Investigation Division of the Wuhan Garrison Command due to betrayal by a traitor and was executed on January 16, 1931, at Yuma Field in Wuchang. His remains were buried in the Sichuan Martyrs’ Cemetery at Shaziling, Wuchang.

The main structures at the Pingshan County Martyrs’ Cemetery, where Martyr Shi Shaoqu’s Tomb is located, include the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Tombs, and the Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall. In 1990, it was designated by the People’s Government of Pingshan County as a County-Level Cultural Relics Protection Unit – Protected Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Building; in 2000, it was designated by the Yibin Municipal National Defense Education Committee as a Municipal-Level Cultural Relics Protection Unit and National Defense Education Base; in 2008, it was designated as a County-Level Cultural Relics Protection Unit and Patriotic Education Base.
