The Fengding Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southwestern part of Dazhu County, at the junction of Dazhu and Dianjiang counties. It stretches from Zhulin Gully in the north to Niutouzhai in the south, spanning approximately 10 kilometers. This section lies within the jurisdiction of Jixing and Shizi townships in Dazhu County and represents the highest point of the Mingyue Mountain range. Situated in an expansive mountainous area with lush forests, Fengding Mountain stands as the dominant peak at an elevation of 1,179.8 meters. The abrupt terrain, dense forests, and spectacular scenery offer breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. From here, you can admire the surrounding mountains and landscape, as well as overlook Dianjiang County. With its excellent environment and cool summer climate, Fengding Mountain is ideal for summer retreats and leisure vacations. Notably, the Lion Fort and Niutouzhai within the scenic area feature extremely steep and strategic terrains. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, these were military strongholds used for troop deployments and defenses. Today, the fortress gates and surrounding walls are still well preserved.

Fengding Mountain, with its delightful scenery, is truly a paradise on earth. Above the terraced fields lie scattered farmsteads, with their Qing Dynasty-style blue bricks, black tiles, plank houses, and wooden structures. On a spring morning, as wisps of cooking smoke rise from every household and colorful wildflowers bloom all around, set against the backdrop of the majestic mountains, Fengding Mountain transforms into a beautiful fairytale land — a true haven on earth. For those often caught up in the hustle and bustle of city life, Fengding Mountain offers a perfect escape — a place to breathe fresh air, relax the mind, escape the heat, rejuvenate the body, and lift the spirit.

Scenic Highlights Not to Be Missed

The Watchtower: Built in the 1960s, this six-story tower stands over 30 meters tall. Climbing to the top provides sweeping views of the landscapes across seven counties: Dazhu, Fengdu, Zhongxian, Liangping, Linshui, Dianjiang, and Guang’an. Truly, “from this summit, the surrounding peaks seem small.”

Jin Chengfu Ruins: Constructed during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, Jin Chengfu was established at Sihexiang and governed four counties — Guang’an, Dazhu, Linshui, and Dianjiang. The complex included watchtowers, government offices, and a military department. Ruins of these structures still remain today. The gate tower walls built during the Ming Dynasty have been well preserved, offering significant value for both sightseeing and archaeological research.

Primeval Forest Area: The scenic area currently encompasses 12,000 acres of dense primeval forest, primarily consisting of subtropical plant species such as pines, spruces, and dragon spruce. The forest is exceptionally lush. In summer, the climate remains remarkably cool, with temperatures around 5°C lower than in the county town. The abrupt peaks and stunning mountain vistas create a spectacular scene. As an old poet once wrote: “Behold how Fengding’s peaks pierce the sky, with five summits linked one by one. Behold the century-old pines, hundred feet tall, swaying gracefully, their age unknown.”
